The best in Swedish-inspired art, craft and design will be showcased in the upcoming exhibition at Bonhoga Gallery.  Svenska, opens on the evening of Friday 30th October and will run through until the end of the year.

The exhibition will feature the work of five printmakers from Gotland-based collective Grafikgruppen.  There will be new work from Shetlander Karen Clubb whose artwork has been inspired by her time living and working in Sweden.   Alongside this will also be new work by Shetland-based artists Mike Finnie and Anne Bain who travelled to Sweden as part of a Shetland Arts Visual Art and Craft award last year.

Also featured will be a spectacular rug by Lithuanian artist Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė, which was sourced for this exhibition while on display in Stockholm earlier this year.

And to complement all of this, the exhibition will include examples of the best in Swedish design work, sourced direct from Sweden; beautiful, stylish, contemporary collections of ceramics, homewares, jewellery, accessories and textiles from studios such as Maria Byman, Sägen and Littlephant - winner of the Elle Decoration Swedish Design Award for textiles in 2015.

As well as the main gallery, the shop and lower gallery will also be offering the best Swedish gifts and decorations for everyone this festive season, from colourful Scandi smucks for bairns, funky kitchen accessories to luxurious Swedish blankets.  Those with an eye for beautiful design will not fail to enjoy a visit to Bonhoga this winter.

Jane Matthews of Shetland Arts explains, “We chose to build on existing links with Sweden to create a really lavish collection of work for the Christmas show at Bonhoga this year. It celebrates the best in contemporary art and design with a focus on Sweden and its reputation for classic, chic design.”

Everyone is welcome to the opening evening on 30th October from 6-7.30pm
