May Graham is a self-taught photographer based in Shetland.
...I have been fortunate to have wonderful women close to me in my life, who have been a creative inspiration to me. I aimed to capture their personalities by using reflections, shadows and using natural and adequate lighting. I also created double exposure images in post-production.
My portraits form a collection of strong, powerful and diverse women who all live in Shetland and have their own unique story from their time here. I am passionate about creating authentic images of women that make people stop and reflect on the vibrant and varied worlds in which women work, live and thrive....
Shetland Women is in our Feature Space outside the cinemas at Mareel, a space dedicated to showcasing work by emerging artists based in Shetland.
