Shetland Arts is getting ready for its 16th annual literature festival, Wordplay, which runs from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th November. This year we are launching a new feature, modelled on our ever popular Screencard; the Wordcard, which will allow you access to Wordplay events and priority booking, before events are released to the public!

Welcoming writers of local, national and international renown, Wordplay features a vibrant mix of readings, writing workshops, children’s events and book signings. It offers a unique opportunity for readers and writers to meet with their favourite authors, hear them read their work and answer questions from the public.

This year promises an exciting programme, curated by Karen Cunningham, former director of Glasgow’s Aye Write! Festival, and featuring a great line up of authors and events. Special guests include Judy Murray, author of “Knowing the Score: Our Family and Our Tennis”, award winning Scottish poet and playwright Liz Lochhead, Scottish novelist and social commentator Christopher Brookmyre, The Guardian’s Polly Toynbee and David Walker and many more! The wide range of events includes Neu! Reekie! a delicious feast of spoken word, music, animation and film fusion from "Scotland's favourite avante-garde noise makers" (The Skinny) and a weekend of gigs, including a special family concert and song-writing workshop from Americana trio The Stray Birds.

Wordcards on sale now £40/£25, in person from Mareel, by phone on 01595 745500 or online at www.tickets.shetlandarts.org , watch for the Wordplay programme coming out in mid-September!
