SHETLAND Arts looks forward to welcoming bestselling author and award-winning broadcaster Charlie Connelly to Mareel on Friday 8 November, with his hilarious and informative one-man show Attention All Shipping: A Celebration of the Shipping Forecast.

The shipping forecast turns 100 years old this year, and this is the perfect event for avid listeners. Inspired by Charlie's bestselling book, which has sold more than a quarter-of-a-million copies worldwide, this pacy, informative, moving and hilarious show takes you from Viking to South-East Iceland via Hebrides, Fastnet and German Bight to ensure the shipping forecast will never, ever sound the same again.

Delving into the history of the forecast and telling the stories of the geniuses and crackpots who made it, Charlie explains what the forecast's curious phrases actually mean, charts its wide cultural impact way beyond just predicting the weather, shares rip-roaring adventures from his own extraordinary journey through the 31 sea areas, and presents his case for the shipping forecast being our proudest achievement.

“I can thoroughly recommend an evening spent in the company of the very funny and very lovely Charlie Connelly whose knowledge of what I call ‘the ships’ is excellent. Sou’westers optional.” - Corrie Corfield, BBC Radio 4.

Tickets for Attention All Shipping: A Celebration of the Shipping Forecast cost £18 and are available to purchase online from tickets.shetlandarts.org, in-person at the Box Office in Mareel, or by calling on 01595 745 500 during opening hours of 10am-9pm, Tuesday - Sunday.
