Shetland Arts presents Rod Clements live @ Mareel on Saturday 5 October, and Aly Bain, Ale Möller, & Bruce Molsky live @ Mareel on Sunday 3 November.

From the beginning of Lindisfarne to his current solo work, the career of Rod Clements reads like a who’s who of contemporary British folk roots. After three decades in the business spanning over thirty albums and several chart hits, Rod Clements is a man emerging from the Lindisfarne years and carving his own unique furrow in inimitable style. Rod’s latest album shows him to be a consummate artist who has never rested on his laurels, either as a songwriter or as a live performer, and whose future is assured as a cult artist in the making.

Born in the North East, Rod together with Ray Laidlaw, formed Lindisfarne in the late 60s. The band became one of the country's most celebrated and iconic acts, their first hit Meet Me On The Corner - written by Rod, hit the top 5 in 1972 and the album from which it was taken Fog On The Tyne began a yearlong residency in the charts. Further hits such as Lady Eleanor, Run For Home kept the band's profile high both at home and internationally. Since Lindisfarne called it a day in 2004 he has concentrated on solo activities.

Rod’s solo shows combine his excellent newer material with some Lindisfarne classics and are woven through with stories drawn from Rod's extraordinary 40 year career as a musician at the highest level.

Aly Bain is Scotland’s supreme traditional style fiddler. His playing is unique, driving, impassioned and pure, with a vibrant, unmistakable tone that has earned him a following of ardent fans throughout the world. His most recent collaboration with Swedish multi-instrumentalist, Ale Möller, created the album Fully Rigged a celebration of shared Nordic heritage. Completing the line-up is Bruce Molsky, who has also explored traditional music from an astonishingly broad range of cultures over the past two decades and played at Mareel in 2012 to a packed house as part of the venue’s Official Opening Weekend.

Aly Bain, although his musical base is firmly in Scotland, his extensive travels have led to an appreciation and mastery of many kinds of fiddle music. He was awarded the MBE for services to folk music, has an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Music by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and is the Musical Director of the legendary Transatlantic Sessions. Aly will also be playing at Shetland Fiddle Frenzy in Mareel in August with Phil Cunningham.

Ale Möller, found his roots in Swedish folk music by way of first falling in love with the sounds of Greece. En route he became a master of the bouzouki and a multi-instrumentalist with a lot of different flutes in his belt. Ale has been a front member of bands like Filarfolket, Enteli and Nordan and he still tours the world with the trio Frifot.

Bruce Molsky, is one of the most influential old-time fiddlers around. He is also a remarkable guitarist, banjoist and singer - with skill, a varied and deep repertoire, a reverence for the past, a healthy curiosity about music outside old-time, and a relaxed, conversational wit that draws listeners in as if they were sitting in his living room.

Tickets for both concerts are available now via Shetland Box Office in Mareel & Islesburgh, over the phone on 01595 745 555, and online at www.shetlandboxoffice.org and www.mareel.org
