Power of Place is Shetland’s first year long celebration of architecture and place. In partnership with WordPlay, Shetland’s annual book festival, we are launching a creative collaboration open to everyone in Shetland entitled ‘2100: Future Shetland’.
We are asking people to imagine what Shetland will be like in the year 2100, ninety years from now. What will Shetland look like? Who will be living here? What will the buildings and architecture look like? Will Shetland be a sustainable community? Will climate change affect the islands? Will new technologies affect the islands? How will Shetland adapt to changes?
We are looking for poetry, prose, images, music, film, new media, animation - any way that people want to show their vision of Shetland’s future.
The ‘vision’ will be displayed online and selected work will be read out at the Wordplay Festival in September. Ideas may also be used to stimulate discussion about Shetland’s future at the Power of Place Open Forums.
