The Donald Anderson Band, one of Shetland’s best kept secrets is to launch Shetland Arts new Gutters Gaet Sessions at Mareel Cafe Bar this coming Sunday afternoon June 14th from 1:30 to 3:30. The local band who are made up of well-known musician’s guitarist Alan Mackay, bassist Rick Nickerson and drummer Duncan Kidson provide a platform for singer songwriter Donald Anderson’s creative material. They will be featuring material from Donald’s solo album “Waterhead Sky”, the band’s debut album “In Passing” and new material which is to be included on a forthcoming release.
The Gutters Gaet sessions are open to practitioners, performers and creatives from any art form. They provide a platform to allow artists to sell their latest CD or craft produce, perform a preview of a new work, or simply spend a couple of hours showing people what they can do. Slots last two hours, and are free to individuals and groups to book.
The band stated that: 'We are delighted to be able to bring our music to the Gutters Gaet Sessions. The new format will give us the opportunity to present our material in a relaxed and informal setting.'
Bryan Peterson, Head of Creative Opportunities for Shetland Arts said, ‘Having The Donald Anderson Band play for our first Gutters’ Gaet Session is a real treat and holding the sessions in the café bar makes them accessible to everyone. We hope that this first session will encourage other artists to come forward and show us what they’ve got.’
The Gutters' Gaet Sessions are free for both artists and audiences. If you would like to hold your own session, please contact [email protected] to arrange a slot.
