There have been a few comments regards the size and shape of Shetland's new £12m+ music, cinema and education centre given the current activity on the North Ness site. Just in case you are wondering, the building going up at the moment is actually only the site offices that will only be there for the duration of the build. It's not the Mareel building itself! This small building is on the corner of the car park area of the Mareel site. DITT Construction Ltd started pre contract preparations last week, making sure they have a suitable and serviced office base close to the main site up and running ready for when construction gets fully underway.
Building work on the Mareel building proper will start at beginning of July, marked by the arrival of the piling contractor who will make a start on the foundations.
