Michele Daykin is a contemporary jeweller based in Fife. With qualifications in both Stitched Textiles and Jewellery Design and Manufacture, she combines both disciplines to create beautiful contemporary pieces combining silver and her own dyed batik fabric.
Inspired by the urban environment, she has always been fascinated with textures and marks found on walls, pavements, surfaces and the degrading, wearing and softening that evolves over time. The irregular shapes of her jewellery have developed from a love of urban stonework. The gap within each setting is a direct interpretation of the space between the stones. The tabs for holding the fabric in the setting are intentionally visible; emulating the claws on a precious stone setting, elevating the fabric to a precious status.
The fabric contained within each piece is developed from the beautiful minuscule details and repeat patterns on surfaces, such as chisel markings, moss and lichen that usually go unnoticed.
We are delighted to have a selection of Michele's stunning jewellery on sale in our shop at Bonhoga Gallery.
