Joining Kevin Henderson in the line-up of tutors are musicians Jenna Reid, Andrew Gifford and Amy Laurenson. Each tutor will lead daily classes for Frenzy Pass holders; Jenna and Amy will also be leading two additional workshops. Jenna’s workshop will focus on ‘How to Practice’ while Amy’s will explore ‘Traditional Improvisation’.
Two more workshops from local musicians feature in the programme – Tim Matthew will lead a workshop in ‘Fiddle Tech’ where participants can learn more about plugging in their fiddle, while David Boyter’s workshop will discuss accompanying traditional tunes on the guitar.
For Frenzy Pass holders, there will also be tunes on the beach at St Ninian’s Isle and a bus tour to the birthplace of prominent local fiddler Dr Tom (Tammy) Anderson.
Everyone is welcome to join in the workshops, Café Bar Sessions, and can also attend The Tutors’ Concert and The Big Gig! Booking required for the workshops and gigs, no booking required for the Mareel café bar sessions from 9pm throughout the Folk Frenzy week.
Shetland Arts has shared a bursary with Shetland music teachers, offering the opportunity for two talented 16-18yr old local musicians to join in with all Folk Frenzy events where cost may have otherwise been a barrier. The Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year also receives a free Folk Frenzy pass from Shetland Arts as part of their prize.
