Singer-songwriter Adam Guest to perform at next Soup and a Show

Barnsley-born singer-songwriter Adam Guest has been a mainstay of the isles’ music scene for more than a decade.

Barnsley-born singer-songwriter Adam Guest has been a mainstay of the isles’ music scene for more than a decade.

Equally at home playing solo or with a five-piece band, he draws on folk and blues influences, as well as tales and stories from his native South Yorkshire. Adam’s heartfelt and honest songwriting have seen him perform at festivals across the isles and the mainland including Celtic Connections in Glasgow.

Soup and a Show is a chance to enjoy songs from his acclaimed debut album Solitude & Grace which has seen both national and local radio play, as well new material since becoming a dad.

What can we expect from your show?

I’m really happy to be a part of the Soup and a Show series. Mareel is such a wonderful venue and I’ll be playing a mixture of self-penned songs both on acoustic and electric guitar. Characters from my home in Yorkshire as well being part of this special community have had a real impact on my songwriting.

I enjoy swapping between both instruments and it’s a chance to settle into a performance and hopefully make a connection with the audience. I’m hoping it’s a chance for folk to enjoy a cosy gig and with the Shetland weather being so unpredictable, warming up with some soup if it’s a bit wet and windy!

What interested you in being part of our Soup and a Show series?

I think there’s a really supportive music scene in Shetland and I think Soup and a Show offers something a little different. Everyone is busy but I hope it’s a chance to take a bit of a different lunch break, make people smile, and maybe if I’m lucky there’s a pork pie too.”
