Annual filmmaking favourite Homemade screens at Mareel this weekend
We're looking forward to this weekend's screenings of Homemade 2026,
We’re looking forward to this weekend’s screenings of Homemade 2026, featuring a fantastic lineup of back-to-back short films, all from local Shetland filmmakers.
Submissions for 2026 were welcomed from filmmakers of all ages and abilities, with films of any genre and any style allowed. As well as having the usual screening of films up to 4 minutes in length, this year marks the first Homemade to feature films from 4 to 12 minutes long, aimed at more experienced film makers. Now, it’s time see them on the big screen where they belong!
For the 0 – 4 minute event, there will be support from Shetland ForWirds who will offer their annual award for the most effective use of Shaetlan. The audience will also get to choose their favourite on the day, for which an Audience Choice trophy will be awarded. Prizegiving will take place on the Saturday screening of 0-4 minutes.
For the 4 – 12 minute event, there will be reviews given by a panel of personnel in the film industry.
Shetland Arts is also delighted to have local actor Steven Robertson (best known for his role as Detective Sandy Wilson in the drama series ‘Shetland’) join them for a workshop where he will discuss the technical challenges of getting from script to screen, drawing on his experience in theatre, television and the film industry.
Kathy Hubbard said, “We’ve had a splendid response from a wide variety of local filmmakers and we can’t wait for audiences to see them. The slightly longer-form films on Sunday are a new venture for Homemade and the range of submissions has been astonishing.“

Tickets for Homemade 2026 are available to purchase online from tickets.shetlandarts.org, in-person at the Box Office in Mareel, or by calling on 01595 745 500 during opening hours of 10am-9pm, Tuesday – Sunday.
