Shetland Story Slam to return for third night of storytelling

We're looking forward to the third instalment of the Shetland Story Slam.

We’re looking forward to the third Shetland Story Slam event on Sunday 1 November (7:30pm), a night of live, personal storytelling run by Liz Musser and Ruth Oliver.

This instalment is also a part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2026.

The theme of the night is Bird and Beast. Come along and hear stories of extraordinary wildlife on our doorsteps in Shetland, or perhaps something that happened on the other side of the world. You might even hear tales of the beasts that live in our own homes, a pet that changed someone’s life, or how they saw the world.

Ruth said, “We’ve got some great storytellers signed up – and there’s still room for more! We’d love to hear from anyone who has a story to tell about birds or beasts of any kind. We’d also love to see you there in the audience – it’s always a great night, full of warmth and connection. It’s always fascinating to hear these 5-minute windows into other folk’s lives.”

Do you have a story that fits the theme? There’s still time to sign up to tell your own five minute, true life story about Bird and Beast. The story should be:

  • personal – you are the main character
  • true
  • connected to the theme
  • 5 minutes max
  • told without notes
  • respectful and inclusive

To put your name forward to tell a story, please fill out this short form.

If you’d like to chat to Ruth and Liz about your idea, or if you have any questions get in touch: [email protected].

Tickets for Shetland Story Slam cost £11/£5.50 (inclusive of 10% booking fee) and are available to purchase online from tickets.shetlandarts.org, in-person at the Box Office in Mareel, or by calling on 01595 745 500 during opening hours of 10am-9pm, Tuesday – Sunday.
