Say hello to our new Creative Project Manager, Sanne

Sanne Brock has recently started her role with us as Creative Project Manager.

Sanne Brock has recently started her role as our Creative Project Manager.

In the new role, she will be managing a range of projects, including the Visual Artist & Craft Maker Awards 2026/27. We asked Sanne to give us a little introduction and to tell us more about what she’s looking forward to.

Could you tell us a little more about yourself?

I’m a newcomer to Shetland. I first visited to learn about local folklore and immediately knew that I wanted to come back. I’m from Aotearoa New Zealand, where I worked in various fields including biodiversity conservation and community development. While I don’t have a formal art degree, the thread of creative practice is woven throughout my life and ultimately led me here.

What would you say to someone who is considering applying for VACMA?

Go for it! The great thing about VACMA funding is that it is all about growing and developing your creative practice. The funding also covers quite a range of activities, whether you’re interested in exploring a new idea, developing skills, or investing in equipment. Even if you’re not sure, it’s worth having a look at the Guidance for Applicants on the Creative Scotland website (and reach out to me if you have any questions).

What excites you about managing the opportunity?

I love seeing people make progress with something that’s important to them. I know how hard it can be to find the right balance of time, space, and resources to work on a creative project, but also how exciting and transformative it can be with the right support.

What else are you looking forward to in your role?

It’s early days here, but I’m also programming some live music. In my other role here on the Customer Services team, I’ve heard some great local bands, and now I get to work with another aspect of it too.
