We’re delighted to be hosting another Healing Arts Scotland event this year on Tuesday 16 June.

The day of free workshops provides the opportunity to explore, reflect and connect in a warm and welcoming space.

As part of the Jameel Arts & Health Lab’s global outreach campaign in collaboration with the World Health Organization, Healing Arts Scotland is a bi-annual celebration of the role of the arts to improve health and wellbeing. Launched in partnership with Scottish Ballet in 2024, and co-produced by a national coalition of organisations bridging culture, healthcare, education and policy, the initiative is designed to embed the arts into public health and community well-being across Scotland.

The day at Mareel includes a wide range of hands-on workshops such as self-care box making with charity Mind Your Head and Nature Journalling from RSPB, alongside opportunities to take part in uplifting singing sessions with Suzanne Briggs for adults and parents with young children, Wellbeing Writing with Karen Saunders, and a guided nature art walk with Aimee Labourne.

There will be space for informal conversation around wellbeing, as well as stalls from local organisations, including NHS Shetland, and there will also be a collaborative exhibition making experience led by Heather Christie, focused on places that make us feel good. The day is designed to support mental health, encourage creativity, and provide opportunities to connect, reflect and be together in a welcoming environment.

“Healing Arts is a campaign that is gaining traction all around the world. It feels important to highlight this here in Shetland as part of the Scotland-wide Healing Arts campaign. The day at Mareel will have wellbeing arts sessions that you can attend, and conversations and panels where themes around arts and health will be explored. The arts can play an innovative role in health and wellbeing, and we’re looking forward to celebrating this on the 16th of June.” – Kathryn Gordon, Creative Project Manager
