Singing for the Joy of It

This spring, we are delighted to be holding two different singing workshops aimed at young people and adults, led by Suzanne Briggs, Just Sing! and Voice Notes are relaxed, welcoming workshops designed for anyone who wants to enjoy singing, regardless of experience. We asked Suzanne to tell us a little bit about the workshops!

Just Sing!

These workshops are simply to share the joy of singing with others and how amazing that makes us feel. Everyone’s voice is most welcome – even if you have convinced yourself that you can’t sing! Your voice is wonderful and unique, and you might just surprise yourself with what it can do… Last week’s workshop certainly raised the roof! These are not rehearsals and there is no performance, just learning by ear and immersing ourselves in the moment. Whether you are a seasoned singer looking for an hour of singing just for the feel-good fun of it or you are a complete beginner, come and enjoy a supportive space where we can all “Just Sing!”. A cuppa and a chat for the last 30 minutes of the session is a great way to connect with others, ask any questions and enjoy the afterglow of a great hour of singing together.

Weekly: Thursday 7th, 14th, 21st May | 6.30pm – 8.00pm | £2 | Mareel

Voice Notes

This series of workshops is for anyone aged S1-6 who loves to sing or thinks they might like to give a try. This is a no-pressure, supportive space for you to find your voice and maybe try something totally new. There are no solos or performances to worry about. You don’t need to read music or play an instrument. We learn by ear, one step at a time. This is a great way to build your musical confidence with absolutely no judgement. We will cover lots of different songs over the coming weeks and would love to add your voice to the mix!

Weekly: Thursday 7th, 14th, 21st May | 4.30pm – 5.30pm | £5.50 | Mareel

About the Workshop Leader

The workshops are led by Suzanne Briggs, who has been leading singing groups and workshops in Shetland for over 10 years. She has a BA (Hons) in Applied Music and an MEd in Learning and Teaching in The Performing Arts. She is also a registered Singing Mamas Community Leader. Suzanne’s work in community singing is driven by her belief that making music is for everybody and we should all be allowed to experience the joy and the many benefits of making music together in the moment. She would love you to come along, just as you are, and enjoy the experience of sharing of voices.
