Tony Humbleyard is an artist living on Unst. He uses the practice of 'Deep listening' in his work, creating it from a walking distance of the Shorestation at the most northernly point.
What remains of our connection to land, to sea, to the 'UseHistories' of place? The land's memory of tree, of cru, of bere rig. The weave of settlement and eco-system.
Who will tell the stories, to guide, nurture & bind us, in the coming time?
"I have lived and worked on Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Islands, since 2005. Engaged in a process of 'Deep Listening', an embedded residency as Social Art practice. I work within walking, cycling distance of the Shorestation, inviting others to collaborate through ongoing projects and residencies. My work engages with site and found object, incorporating the spatial through dance/sculpture and the act of walking. Being present to the element of space itself, guided by the 'UseHistories' of place."
Tony Humbleyard was supported the the Visual Arts and Craft Makers Awards (VACMA), which have applications due in October and February.
