Shoppers should consider our extensive range of high quality products at Bonhoga Gallery and in our Bonhoga shop at Mareel. Lots of design-led goods, cards and books that would be suitable for a loved one this winter.
A top gift idea for cinema fans would be our Shetland Arts vouchers. Not exclusive to cinema, they can be spent on a multitude of items and activities including dance, literature, craft, drama, concerts and so much more. They can also be spent in the café bar at Mareel and in the Bonhoga Shop.
Those lucky enough to grab a ticket for Queen II will be in for a night of marvellous music. Local favourites, The North Ness Boys will be accompanied by Freda Leask to perform some Christmas gospel songs in the Mareel auditorium.
Later in the month, Mareel will host our second annual Hogmanay event with the Revellers. Bound to be a night of fun with friends, take in New Year with Shetland Arts!
Cinema-goers have a massive menu of festive film to choose from including the new A Bad Moms Christmas and Daddy’s Home 2 as well as classics such as The Muppets’ Christmas Carol and It’s A Wonderful Life.
Christmassy workshops will be hosted on consecutive weekends (Sunday 10th December, Sunday 17th December). The first of the two is Bairns Christmas Crafting and is aimed at bairns aged 7-11. They will be having a go at making Christmas wreathes, tree decorations and cards. Maybe a good chance to slip the younger members of the family off while you finish any last minute shopping! The following weekend will be a Wellbeing Craft workshop. It intends to be a good opportunity to decompress and hopefully learn a new skill. Have a chat, have a cuppa and experiment with a range of different craft formats. No skill or previous experience required.
Pop up Makers Markets – a popular event in previous years – makes its return for another round of hand-crafted bits and pieces. Come along and pick up something unique for your friends and family.
On Christmas Eve, there will be a music extravaganza in the Mareel café bar. Starting at 2 o’clock with Wellbeing Choir leader Suzanne Briggs at the helm, a Christmas Carol session will run for an hour. Wouldn’t be Christmas without it! The singer-songwriter Adam Guest will take over from there with some guitar-driven tunes. A festive themed Open Mic coordinated by our own Magnus Stout will close out the Christmas Eve fun.
All in all, we have lots on for people of all ages and interests – we hope to see you soon!
