13 October will see Vic Galloway Presents begin at Mareel, the first in a series of regular music showcase concerts hosted by BBC Radio 1 & BBC Radio Scotland DJ Vic Galloway, followed by a DJ set by the man himself. On the 13 October he will be presenting The Phantom Band, Honeyblood, and Shetland’s own The Last.

Vic Galloway has hosted his own self-titled radio shows on both BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 1 for the past eleven years. He has also hosted Radio 1’s Rock Show and recently sat in for Marc Riley on BBC6 Music. He is often likened to the legendary John Peel, given he un-unashamedly champions new, emerging and often revolutionary music on his shows.

Over and above his radio career he also hosts BBC TV’s annual coverage of T in the Park and coverage of other festivals such as South x Southwest from Austin Texas and the Connect festival in the UK. Other television commitments include BBC 2’s Music Show, BBC 4’s Caledonia Dreaming and Channel 4’s Transmission, while as a respected music journalist he has also written for many national publications.

The Phantom Band originally formed in 2006 and are now signed to the legendary Glasgow label Chemikal Underground. The Phantom Band are one of Scotland’s most acclaimed indie-rock bands, having toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe and North America in recent years. They have two critically acclaimed albums to their credit, 2009’s Checkmate Savage and 2010’s The Wants. The band’s cross genre approach appeals to a wide audience and they are the ideal band to headline Mareel’s first Vic Galloway Presents event.

The Phantom Band

Honeyblood are an Edinburgh based duo touted by many in the industry as one of Scotland’s leading up and coming bands. Similar in approach to the White Stripes with their guitar, drums and vocal approach, 2012 has been their emerging year on the national scene, a year that’s seen them playing increasingly high profile gigs.

The Last need no introduction to Shetland audiences as they are already established as one of the most popular and acclaimed bands on the local scene. Their EP Halos and Heartaches has attracted regular air-play on SIBC while the band also made a hugely successful appearance on the main stage at last year’s Tall Ship’s event.

Vic Galloway said: "I'm excited and delighted to be part of the opening season of events in Shetland's new venue with our Vic Galloway Presents series. There are some great established and new and up-and-coming bands on the scene right now and I look forward to presenting a number of these in the months to come in Shetland. It will also be great fun to round the evenings off with a DJ set. The Phantom Band, Honeyblood and The Last is certainly a great way to christen this particular series.”
