26 April – 1 June 2014 Public opening & presentation of awards: Saturday 26 April 2014, 11am – 1pm

Shetland Arts is celebrating the creativity and diverse talent abundant in Shetland with the start of this year’s Shetland Open at Bonhoga Gallery on Saturday 26th April. Once again the response has been fantastic with over 50 entries.

Marking Bonhoga Gallery’s 20th anniversary year, the theme for this year’s open is Home, referring to the name ‘Bonhoga’, meaning ‘my spiritual home’ in Shetland dialect. The show will run from 26 April until 1 June and awards will be made in four categories: painting, sculpture and drawing, craft and design, photography film and new media and first-time exhibitor. The work will be judged by three independent judges prior to the opening of the show and the winners will be announced at the public opening on Saturday.

As in previous years, category winners will receive a cash prize, thanks to the support from independent commercial sponsors, followed by a further award of £150 each from Shetland Arts to fund the creation of work for a group exhibition in 2015. This is seen as a great development opportunity for emerging and established artists to work collectively towards new work with support from Shetland Arts. Awards will also be made in The Bairns’ Open, running concurrently in the Lower Gallery.

Shetland Arts is very grateful to the following sponsors for their support: The A9 Partnership Ltd., Ninian, Shetland Arts & Crafts Association, John Goudie and Vaila Fine Art.
