Creative Scotland has just announced that the ‘Open Fund for Individuals’ will close to new applications due to the Scottish Government's delay in confirming the release of £6.6 million in Grant-in-Aid budget.

The ‘Open Fund for Individuals’ is designed to support creative activities, including specific projects, productions, or periods of research and development. The ‘Open Fund for Individuals’ is one of the primary routes to public funding for artists to develop their projects.

The fund will stop accepting new applications at 2pm on Friday, 30th August. Having this source of income closed with only 11 days notice will have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of those who were planning applications and we would like to offer support where we can.

Shetland Arts is offering support to artists, writers, producers, and other creative practitioners from Shetland—or those connected to Shetland—who are working to complete their applications in time. If you would like assistance with your application before the deadline, please contact us at [email protected] by the end of Monday 26th August with ‘Open Fund’ as the email subject line. We will respond to everyone who contacts us by Tuesday, 27th August.

We will also be hosting an Artist Support morning on Wednesday 4th of September at 11am, as an opportunity to gather and provide a listening ear.

Additionally, we are adding our voice to the sector wide calls for this fund to be reinstated and have written to our local MSP, a copy of our open letter can be found here.

Please also join us in signing the Campaign for the Arts petition to urge ministers to deliver on their arts funding pledges now: https://www.campaignforthearts.org/petitions/scotland-2024/
