With the academic year quickly coming to a close - Mareel’s students are set to host a live event in Mareel’s auditorium in an effort to showcase the progress they have made throughout the year. From EP releases to promotional video projects; Mareel’s music and video students have been hard at work to make this year’s Student Showcase an event that you won’t want to miss.
At the third and final student event of the year - audiences will be treated to a variety of live musical performances from the Vocational Pathways, NC, HNC and BA students ranging from traditional folk music to hard and heavy blues and rock including some original compositions by some increasingly talented musicians.
Previous HNC student James Dade - producing music under the pseudonym ‘Subscenic’ and quickly gaining recognition in the liquid Drum ‘n’ Bass scene - will be performing a set of electronic music that will be sure to bring a massive level of excitement and energy to the evening, definitely a performance to see!
There will be a premiere of a selection of video projects including a promotional video produced by NC students, a music video for one of Eve Maguire’s songs from her brand new EP; produced by HNC students and finally - some short videos produced by the students on the Vocational Pathways program.
As with past student night events, the students themselves will handle many elements of the production with confidence, using the abilities they have acquired over the year to help out with the technical aspects including the live sound engineering, stagecraft and events promotion skills that they have learned from both music lecturer Fraser Mouat - and head of course and recently appointed head of creative opportunities at Shetland Arts, Bryan Peterson.
“During the year the students have worked hard to cover a broad range of musical topics including composition, performance, business and technology. This showcase brings together the best of their work for the public to enjoy.” - Fraser Mouat
All in all it’s looking as if this year’s Student Showcase is going to be one to remember with some very talented acts lined up to demonstrate the hard work they’ve put in over the year.
The event will take place on Wednesday the 27th of May, 2015. Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30 start.
