Organisers of a new project that has just been launched are calling for the people of Shetland and Orkney to look out for mailboats. It involves messages in bottles and is loosely related to the St. Kilda mailboat which was a form of communication used in times of need by the people of St. Kilda. Bottles containing messages were cast overboard on July 21st in the Minch in a southerly wind and a flood tide. Heriot Toun Studio who are behind the project are hoping that some will reach Orkney or Shetland (they live in hope!) and that the finders will respond to the request of replying to the message with a poem or a story. They ask that we all look out for thier bottles on our shores - you never know!
