Lau will play Mareel on 26 June 2015, presented by Shetland Arts. Tickets go on sale this Friday (5 Dec).
Internationally acclaimed modern folk trio Lau has announced a European tour, including a date in Mareel in June, in support of their highly anticipated forthcoming new album (due for release in May 2015 on Reveal Records).
Lau are three highly individual and extremely gifted musicians: Martin Green (accordion and electronics) Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle, fx) and Kris Drever (vocals, guitars). For a decade they have been stretching folk music's boundaries further and exploring new musical territory with each release and concert tour.
2012’s 'Race The Loser' album was nominated for Scottish Album of the Year and featured in many critics best of year lists. Lau appeared on BBC TV’s Later... with Jools Holland extending their audience considerably in the process and won their fourth BBC Radio Folk Award for Best Group a few months later.
Lau have since curated three multi-artist weekend festivals called Lau-Land and collaborated with a myriad of other musicians and in the last two years have travelled extensively all over the world. For their new album, the recordings are produced by Brooklyn based artist and multi-instrumentalist Joan Wasser (Joan As Police Woman). What comes next from Lau promises to be their greatest musical recorded statement yet.
Lisa Ward, Marketing Officer at Shetland Arts, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Lau back to Mareel for a gig in the new year. Their concert at Mareel last year, as part of Fiddle Frenzy 2013, was very popular, and we expect that quite a few people will be snapping up tickets for this one when they go on sale on Friday.”
Tickets go on sale this Friday (5 Dec) via Shetland Box Office in Mareel & Islesburgh, over the phone on 01595 745 555, and online at shetlandboxoffice.org and mareel.org.
