World Renowned DJ/Producer/Musician/Actor Goldie, will be scouting raw musical talent in the streets of contemporary Britain during 2010 (May-July) for a trilogy of films to be screened autumn 2011 on BBC Two.
With the help of some of his friends, Guy Chambers and Soweto Kinch, who just happen to be some of the best in the business they are looking for people just like him. In his words he describes himself as a: "mixed race, care-home kid dumped on the scrap heap". They’re looking for young people who haven’t had opportunities in the past and have perhaps had to overcome challenging circumstances.
They know there are others out there like him with lots of talent but not enough opportunities to be seen by those who have a big influence on what we listen to in the UK.
So if you know of any musicians aged between 16-24, come from any genre and play any instrument we want to know who they are. We are particularly keen to include a range of instrumentalists and in particular we are looking for more woodwind, brass, string and keyboard players.
If you fit the bill, or have worked with any young people who you would like to nominate for this project, please get in touch with Bryan Peterson at Shetland Arts and give the musician’s name, age, a short paragraph summarising their musical talent and background (why they could benefit from this project – what circumstances have they had to overcome, social, geographic, economic or otherwise?) and where possible a link to some sort of recording such as a YouTube link, mp3 recording, CD or DVD footage.
This is a really exciting project and we hope that young Shetland musicians will get involved.
