On basic tax, national insurance and book-keeping for self-employed creative practitioners This is a basic one day workshop for any creative practitioner (artists, musicians, actors, writers, craft makers, dancers) who is working or thinking of working as a self-employed person. The day will cover the obligations you have as a self-employed person to complete tax returns and make national insurance contributions, the importance of keeping records and basic book-keeping. The day will not provide individual personal advice on financial and tax affairs but will provide pointers on where to find out more information. It will also, hopefully, show how having your financial and tax affairs in order can work positively for your creative practice.
The day will be led by Fraser Mouat. Fraser has 20 years experience of working as a self-employed musician and is also a lecturer for the National Certificate and HNC courses in Music Technology delivered at Mareel in partnership with Shetland College UHI.
This is a basic timetable for the day:
11.00 - 12.30 Income tax/ VAT 12.30 - 13.30 Lunch (may be bought from Mareel café) 13.30 - 15.30 Self - Assessment
We hope you will be able to join us. Whilst this event is free, please book through the Shetland Box Office to enable us to keep track of numbers.
