Shetland Arts is proud to present fortnightly film screenings in The Garrison Theatre this April, instead of the monthly screenings it has run in the past.
The first Film Weekend in April ran from the 5th to the 8th and saw some high-quality screenings including Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe’s new gothic-horror The Woman in Black as well two very popular children’s films (Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island). However, audiences have even more to look forward to with this month’s second Film Weekend, running from the 19th to the 22nd (next weekend).
The films to be screened include kids’ classics Hop and Secret of Kells, as well as Bel Ami, starring heart-throb Robert Pattison, Hunky Dory, starring Oscar-nominee Minnie Driver, and Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s new comedy 21 Jump Street.
Lisa Ward, Marketing Officer, said: “We are very excited to be offering more film screenings for the public to enjoy in run up to the opening of Mareel, which will offer cinema screenings 7 days a week. We’re showing a great set of films this month that I’m sure will be very popular.”
Hop (U)
A chance to see last Easter’s hit film on the big screen. Fred, an out of work slacker, accidentally hits the Easter Bunny as he drives home. With the Easter Bunny unable to hop, Fred is forced to take him in as he recovers, and the unlikely pair must save Easter together. Hop blends state of the arts animation with live action.
Secret of Kells (PG)
Due to popular demand, Secret of Kells returns to Shetland after a highly successful screening at last year’s Discovery Film Festival. Young Brendan lives in a medieval outpost known as the Abbey of Kells, where the ongoing threat of Viking raids causes the peaceful monks to live in a state of fear. With his uncle, Abbot Cellach, and Aisling, a young wolf-girl, Brendan labours to fortify the abbey walls so his people will be protected.
Bel Ami (15)
Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson) is a soldier returning from war. Once home in Paris, he gets into a high social set and soon comes to believe that the secret of success is by seducing women. So he sets about seducing the most powerful and influential women until he has reached previously unimaginable heights. But he makes many enemies on his way
Hunky Dory (15)
Vivienne (Minnie Driver) is a keen drama teacher at a secondary school in Wales in the mid-70s. One summer she decides that rather than put on yet another production of Oliver, she will try to inspire the kids to do a musical version of The Tempest, with music they really love. But can she pull it off when they seem more interested in dating than the musical?
21 Jump Street (15)
When Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill) become cops it’s not long before they flunk their first arrest. As punishment they have to return to high school undercover to bust a drugs ring, and decide the best way to do it is to throw a huge party. But the combination of drink, drugs and these two idiots does not bode well for good crime clear-up rates.
