The exhibition by local artist Paul Bloomer in the main gallery at Bonhoga is not the only attraction at the Gallery, Shop and Cafe this season: Fans of festive fare will have plenty to look forward to including late night shopping with a great selection of unique gifts available for purchase, festive workshops for bairns, live jazz music with Norman Willmore, and a new Winter Menu.

On Wednesdays 20 & 27 November, and Wednesday 4 December, Bonhoga will be open until 8.30pm, allowing visitors to come along in the evening to browse a wide selection of jewellery, textiles, ceramics, and prints for every budget from artists including Charlotte Lowe, Jessica Flinn, Laura Millen, Charlotte Hannet, Leigh Shepherd, Heather Shaw, Nuala Jamieson, Frances Tekkam, Joan Fraser, Vanessa Conyers, Karen Davie, Fiona Watson, Sarah Young, Ruth Brownlee, Michele Wright, and Eleanor’s Attic.

Bonhoga Xmas Shop

Some of the items available in the shop at Bonhoga

Angela Smith of Shetland Arts’ said: “The Lower Gallery Craft cabinet and shop is selling a beautiful selection of art and craft to ensure that the present you give for Christmas is one of a kind. From retro ceramics and beautifully knitted scarves, stained glass decorations and prints by the some of the UK’s best printmakers, to a range of traditional and contemporary jewellery. The Shop is also fully stocked with unusual and out of the ordinary gifts from inscribed porcelain lamps and hand stamped vintage spoons, to scented candles and Christmas decorations. And if you can’t choose, there’s always Shetland Arts’ Gift Tokens for use in Bonhoga, Mareel, and The Garrison Theatre!”

A number of special events will also take place during these late night opening hours. On Wednesday 20 November, 6-8pm, there will be a Bairns’ Art Workshop where bairns aged 4-10 can make their own table decorations for Christmas, and on Wednesday 27 November, 6-8pm, there will be a Bairns’ Printing Workshop where bairns aged 5-11 can create and print their own designs for Christmas. There are only 10 places available for each workshop so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Booking is over the phone on 01595 745 750.

And on Wednesday 4 December you can pop in to enjoy some live jazz from Norman Willmore, accompanied by mulled wine and festive nibbles. And warming food will be available during the season on the new Winter Menu.

Bonhoga will close for the festive on Sunday 22 December and reopen again on Saturday 18 January 2014.
