Our Summer Dance Intensive is perfect for dance-mad young people of secondary age. Participants will spend a week immersed in dance, exploring a range of skills with Shetland-born dancer and choreographer Kathryn Spence. Participants will learn contemporary dance technique and use this to devise, create and edit a short dance film and choreograph a piece to share at a special evening of dance on the 21st July. Kathryn will work collaboratively with participants to ensure all have ownership of the pieces created, using a combination of her choreography experience and ideas from participants. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the creative process and to have your ideas heard and put into dance. The Summer Dance Intensive is split into two blocks to cater to the needs and abilities of participants: the Beginners block runs from Monday 10July – Friday 14July and the Intermediate block is from Monday 17July – Friday 21July, both running from 10am – 4pm every day.
Creativity Camp returns after an exciting debut last year. Our fun-filled summer arts camp will give children from P5-P7 an amazing opportunity to explore a range of skills in film, drama, dance, music, literature, visual art and crafts, while developing confidence, encouraging creativity and having lots of fun! Our theme this year is ‘Under the Sea’, and our young participants will create the entire show, writing the script, crafting props and the set, creating interesting soundscapes and music, and devising dance and film pieces. Sessions run from 10am – 4pm starting Monday 24 July and the block will culminate in a brand new performance for friends and family on Friday 28 July.
Creative Project Manager Cara McDiarmid said: “We can’t wait for the summer here at Shetland Arts, we’re delighted to bring Kathryn Spence back for another amazing two weeks of dance, and the Creativity Camp was so much fun last year. It’s so important to allow young people to explore creativity, and I’m very excited to see what our wonderful participants come up with this year!”
