As Christmas draws closer and the festive feeling starts to spread, Cerys Matthews is on her way back to Shetland to finish up her special UK winter tour, Cerys by Candlelight, with two family-friendly, festive-themed performances in Mareel this Thursday (20th December) at 5.45pm and 8.30pm.

For Cerys’ second appearance in Mareel this year - she also launched Mareel’s Official Opening Season with The Wonderful World of Cerys Matthews at the beginning of October – she’s feeling very festive indeed. Expect classic Christmas songs, candles, and plenty of opportunities to sing along.

Cerys is encouraging concert-goers to download and print lyrics for songs she’ll be performing in advance of the show, or if that’s not your cup of tea, to just pick up a copy on the night and join in if you can! She hopes to have everyone singing along to classics such as Ding Dong Merrily on High, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and Baby, It’s Cold Outside (the title track for her new Christmas album on which she duets with Sir Tom Jones).

Shetland Arts’ Marketing Officer, Lisa Ward, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Cerys back to Mareel for this special Christmas concert. It’s fantastic that she’s chosen Shetland as the last stop on her winter tour, and having her back at the end of Opening Season brings everything full circle. We hope the audiences will get in the spirit and show her how loud Shetlanders can sing!”

Cerys by Candlelight has been receiving rave reviews all throughout the UK and a number of the performances have been sell-outs.

Cerys Matthews is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, author and broadcaster. She hosts a Sunday morning music show on BBC 6 Music and makes documentaries for television as well as BBC Radio 2 and 4.

Tickets cost £23.50 and are available via Shetland Box Office in Mareel and Islesburgh, over the phone on 01595 745 555, or online here: http://www.mareel.org/listen/events/cerys-by-candlelight/
