Two free CPD (Continuous Professional Development) Opportunities at Bonhoga Gallery, Weisdale Mill.

For artists, teachers and community based staff.

Dennis Coutts: Sixties’ Revisited - Book Online Here Monday 10 February 2014, 4.30 – 6pm. Teas/ coffees will be available on arrival.

After the huge success of Dennis Coutts’ 2012 exhibition, Sixties’ Exposure, the era is revisited here to further showcase of the work of such a prolific local photographer. Dennis Coutts has been photographing Shetland’s society for over 60 years and his work is a fascinating catalogue of life throughout the islands, particularly in the pre-oil era. All the photographs in the exhibition have been hand-printed from the original negatives in the darkroom, by Dennis’ son John. This is a slow and time-consuming process that is rarely used in this digital age.

Dennis will give insights into his life and work with a short talk. This will be followed by a short practical hands on workshop relating to his exhibition. The workshop will provide ideas for taking back to the classroom, youth club, community group or for participants to develop personally.

Louise Schmid: Ora Blue - Book Online Here Thursday 6 March 2014, 4.30 – 6pm Teas/ coffees will be available on arrival.

Louise Schmid is a Swiss born artist, living and working in Glasgow. Her new work for ORA BLU has been developed from numerous drawings during her residency at the Booth in Scalloway during 2011. The exhibition explores symbiotic alliances between art and imaginative sustainable developments, including water and air cleansing plants. Louise’s work provides many opportunities for cross curricular approaches across science and expressive arts subjects.

Louise will give a short presentation about her work and will then lead a practical hands on drawing workshop with ideas for taking back to the classroom, youth club, community group or for participants to develop personally.

Although these events are free, please book through the Shetland Box Office so we can keep track of numbers.
