2023 marked the 16th Screenplay Film Festival!
This was the last film festival to be curated by the team of Kathy Hubbard, Mark Kermode and Linda Ruth Williams. They were feeling nostalgic with some 'Classic' films (Gregory's Girl and O Brother, Where Art Thou), but their faith in the future was clear with the addition of a new theme - 'Extraordinary Children' (Name me Lawand, Winners, Luana: A Yak in the Classroom and Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical) where children took centre stage at the festival.
Many of the perennial favourites were there, including ‘Look North’ (Godland, Sick of Myself and Sisu) and ‘Family Friendly’ (Dragon Princess, Oink and Shorts For Wee Ones/ Middle Onces) as well as the annual extravaganza of short films made by local Shetland filmmakers that is ‘Home Made’. As always, there were also a number of live guest Q&As, plus pre-recorded interviews with filmmakers who were unable to attend the festival in person.
Festival Director Kathy Hubbard said she and her co-curators were “looking forward to welcoming friends new and old to the festival – with many audience regulars coming from other countries - and to celebrating sixteen years of screen culture from around the world.”
